What Grade Do I Need to Pass?

Enter your current grade, completed course weight and passing mark to see what you need on the work that's left.

Score needed to pass

Use your current grade and how much of the course is already complete.

Pass target
You need an average of41.3%on the remaining 30% of the course to finish with 60% overall.

About this calculator

This calculator treats your current grade as the average across the portion of the course already completed. It then works backwards from your passing target to calculate the average required across everything that remains.

How to use it

  1. Enter your current course grade.
  2. Enter the percentage of the course already completed.
  3. Enter the grade required to pass and read the average you need on the remaining work.

How to calculate the grade you need to pass

Needed average = [passing grade − current grade × completed weight] ÷ remaining weight

For example, if your current grade is 68% after 70% of the course and you need 60% overall to pass, the calculator determines what average is required across the remaining 30%.

What if the answer is over 100%?

That means the passing target cannot be reached from the remaining course weight using ordinary percentage scores. If the answer is zero or below, you have already mathematically secured the target under the assumptions entered.

Check your syllabus or school rules before relying on the result. Some courses use category weights, minimum exam scores, dropped grades or other rules that need a more specific calculation.
